Biography
Dr. Hongjoo Rhee is an Associate Director for the Engineering Mechanics and Materials Science (EMMS) thrust at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mississippi State University (MSU). He earned his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from Inha University, Incheon, South Korea. He held positions as an Associate Research Professor at CAVS, MSU, 2015-2018; an Assistant Research Professor at CAVS, MSU, 2009-2015; as a Post-doctoral Associate at CAVS, MSU, 2006-2009; as a Visiting Research Associate, a Research Assistant, and a Teaching Assistant at Michigan State University, 2000-2005; as a Research Staff at Inha University, 1998-1999; and worked as an Assistant Manager and a Research Staff at R&D Center for Metallurgy, KIA Steel Co., Ltd., Seoul/Kunsan, South Korea, 1992-1998.

Steel Alloy Design and Process Optimization; Bio-Inspired Materials Design; Next Generation Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) Design; Novel Metal Matrix Metallic Composites Design; High Strain Rate Material Testing and Model Development; Site-Specific Studies on Inhibition Layer Formation and Galvanneal Growth on AHSS; Domestic and International Collaborative Research Program Development; Simulation of Weld Joints Subject to Fatigue, Corrosion, and Blast; Microstructure-Property Responses of Biological and Synthetic Foams at Different Strain Rate Regimes; Materials Design for Mg Alloys; Process Simulation for Hot Press Forming; Modeling in the Resistance Spot Welding of Mg Alloy; Additive Manufacturing Process and Performance Modeling; Material Database and Model Development for Polymeric Materials.
