Abstract

Buried explosive hazards are a serious threat to both civilians and soldiers alike. In this article, we focus on the design of a new energy-based prescreener in handheld ground penetrating radar. First, we Curvelet filter B-scans. Next, we aggregate a bank of matched filters then run a size contract filter with Bhattacharyya distance. Last, alarms are combined using weighted mean shift clustering. Results are demonstrated using ROC curves on data from a U.S. Army test site that contains multiple target and clutter types, burial depths and times of day.
