Myth Buster: Six Sigma

Walden, C. (). Myth Buster: Six Sigma. 2006 Lean Manufacturing Conference. Canton, MS: Hosted by Nissan and Mississippi State University.

Abstract

The biggest challenge to solving chronic quality problems on the shop floor is to eliminate the myths that surround them. In order to expose these myths, it is critical to replace the shoot from the hip approach, all too common within manufacturing, with a data driven root cause approach. This activity based workshop leads participants through a full application of DMAIC through audience participation in a "hands on" catapult factory. Emphas is placed on rapid application of selected tools (e.g., SPC, DOE, Component Search). The workshop is designed to illustrate the power of Six Sigma and its ultimiate usefulness within lean transformations.
