Elite researchers from across the country gathered at Mississippi State University’s Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems to collaborate on the advancement of electric ship concepts.

The Electric Ship Research and Development Consortium (ESRDC)’s May meeting was held at CAVS, with the event including seminar sessions, research poster displays and a facility tour. CAVS research engineer Angela Card, who has contributed to the ESRCD project for more than 15 years, was thrilled to bring the meeting’s location back to Starkville, Mississippi.

“Since MSU is a founding member of ESRDC, it’s great to be able to host the spring meeting in Starkville,” Card said. “It’s a great opportunity to connect with fellow ESRDC researchers, as well as showcase the entirety of our research capabilities at CAVS.”

Established in 2002, ESRDC aims to increase functionality, efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness of the United States Navy’s All-Electric Ship. Funded by the United States Office of Naval Research, ESRCD also focuses on decreasing a national shortage of electric power engineers.

In addition to MSU, member institutions include Florida State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Naval Postgraduate School, Purdue University, United States Naval Academy, University of South Carolina, and The University of Texas at Austin.
