TUPELO, Miss.—The Mississippi Clean Fuels Coalition is hosting a Clean Transportation Showcase in Tupelo on Wednesday [Nov. 5].

The come-and-go event will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Farmers Market at the Depot and feature a display of alternative-fueled vehicles and opportunities to learn how clean fuel technology benefits Mississippi communities.

Led by Mississippi State University's Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems, the Mississippi Clean Fuels coalition is a network of partners working to promote energy independence and expand markets for alternative vehicle fuels. The coalition was recognized as an apprentice program with the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities and Communities program last fall. CAVS Senior Research Engineer Angela Card is serving as acting director of the coalition.

"By showcasing proven applications of alternative fuel sources such as electricity and propane, we're helping communities better understand the performance, economic and environmental advantages of clean transportation solutions," Card said.

The goals of the Mississippi Clean Fuels Coalition include reducing dependence on foreign petroleum, expanding the market for alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles, improving air quality through the use of cleaner
alternative fuels, and creating economic development opportunities.
