Abstract

Turbulence modeling for jet noise prediction requires resolution of a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. Resolving the smallest turbulent scales require excessive computational resources, but the higher-frequency noise generated by these small eddies cannot be ignored. With the goal of enhancing the high frequency content of LES jet noise predictions, a coupled LES-stochastic turbulence model is presented. Here we demonstrate that the proposed method shows promise in modeling the higher-frequency noise content of a Mach 0.9 jet, potentially reducing the computational cost for jet noise simulations.
