Mechanical Group

The Mechanical Group is comprised of a Group Lead, Matt McGough, and a team of students that range from freshmen to graduate students. This is the team’s largest group.   The Mechanical group is responsible for everything that makes the car’s internal combustion engine and electric motor work; as well as the structural body work.  They also work very closely with the Electrical/Controls group as modern powertrain and body systems communicate with the car’s computers.  The team is very successful in the areas of both design and fabrication of parts for MSU’s EcoCAR2 Chevy Malibu.

Michael Bigbie

Michael Bigbie is a senior Mechanical Engineering major from Laurel, MS. He hopes to hone his skills and gain valuable teamwork experience while working on the EcoCAR 2 project. Apart from his studies, Michael enjoys carpentry work on the side.





Hunter Edwards

Hunter Edwards is a Mechanical Engineering major from Water Valley, MS. Hunter is hoping to gain knowledge of different systems and how they work together in the EcoCAR 2 project.





Eric Fortney

Eric Fortney is a Mechanical Engineering major from Memphis, TN. He hopes to gain valuable knowledge and experience about cars and the automobile industry to help in his future endeavors. In his spare time, Eric enjoys photography and working with car audio systems.





Chad Leachman

Chad Leachman is a Mechanical Engineering major from Ruston, LA. He hopes to gain experience in working with automotive systems while on the EcoCAR team. In his spare time, Chad enjoys playing soccer, ultimate frisbee, or going to the great outdoors for some hunting and fishing.





Colton Little

Colton Little is a Mechanical Engineering major from Jackson, TN. He hopes to learn the process a group uses when working on a project like this, as well as the general engineering aspects of a hybrid. Colton played football and baseball all four years of high school. Nowadays, he still enjoys playing sports and also enjoys watching Vampire Diaries.





Dustin McMarter

Dustin McMarter is a Mechanical Engineering major from Hancock, MS. He has a long history working on engineering projects and hopes to expand his skill-set while working with the EcoCAR 2 team at MSU. In his spare time, he works with robotics and builds his own RC gas cars.





Mukti Patel

Mukti Patel is a Mechanical Engineering major from Nashik, India. Mukti hopes to learn from the more experienced members of the EcoCAR 2 team. She hopes to develop her own personality and individual strengths in a team setting. In her free time, Mukti enjoys dancing and reading. She is also a pure vegetarian; she has never had any kind of meat in her life.





Bret Reinhart

Bret Reinhart is Mechanical Engineering major from Diamondhead, MS. He joined the team to learn more about hybrids in particular, but also learn more about cars. Bret also hopes to learn the skills necessary to work in team atmosphere. In his free time, he enjoys playing sports, running, and reading a good book.





Austin Wade

Austin Wade is a Mechanical Engineering major from Louin, MS. Austin joined the team to gain hands-on experience with the design software used for EcoCAR and in the automobile industry. Aside from EcoCAR, Austin also fights fire as a volunteer fireman at two different departments. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and going out for target practice.





Clayton Walls

Clayton Walls is a Mechanical Engineering major from Grenada, MS. He hopes to learn more about the engineering field through his experience with EcoCAR 2. Clayton once place 2nd in the Mississippi State Ford/AAA Hands-On Competition, and hopes to be able to use those skills while working with the MSU EcoCAR 2 team. In his spare time, Clayton enjoys shooting sports, fishing, and hunting.





Tyler White

Tyler White is a Mechanical Engineering major from Booneville, MS. Tyler hopes to expand his engineering knowledge through EcoCAR 2, and gain valuable teamwork and leadership skills. In his free time, Tyler enjoys hunting and playing his fiddle.
