Dr. Heejin Cho is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University (MSU). He joined the department in the spring of 2013. Prior to joining MSU, Dr. Cho worked as a research engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Richland, WA for three and half years. His research at PNNL primarily focused on modeling and simulation of advanced and sustainable building energy technologies, development of a whole building energy modeling and simulation tool (i.e., ErengyPlus) and development of automated diagnostics/corrections tools for building energy components. Dr. Cho earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mississippi State University in 2005 and 2009, respectively. His Ph.D. dissertation topic was titled “dynamic simulation and optimal real-time operation of CHP systems for buildings.”

Dr. Cho’s current research interests revolve around analyzing and improving advanced and sustainable energy technologies for buildings and developing optimal control algorithms for building energy systems to minimize operational costs, primary energy consumption, and air pollutants. His specialties are modeling, dynamic simulation, optimization, and uncertainty analysis of energy systems including alternative energy technologies, HVAC systems and buildings. He is proficient in energy/building simulation programs including EnergyPlus, TNRSYS, Matlab and Mathcad. He serves as reviewer for several energy/thermal science journals and is an active member of the professional organizations of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
