3rd Party IGES Export Options

Altair HyperMesh®

In the Files menu, select the export and IGES toggles and set the following options:

  • no planes
  • outer loop mandatory
  • groups

SDRC I-DEAS®

Under the File menu, select the Export sub-menu and select IGES.  Select the Surfaces to export as opposed to the Part.  Define a SolidMesh flavor with the following options (select Edit Flavor):

  • Assemblies: Explode to a Single IGES Part
  • Choose Geometry Types to Export: on
Select the Types to Export... button and select the following:
  • Points: off
  • Groups: on
  • Curves/Edges: on
    • Convert type to: 126 NURBS
    • Convert Arcs to Conics: off
  • Surfaces: on
    • Convert trimmed surface type: 144:0 Trimmed with 3D Model and 2D Param Space Curves
    • Convert to base surface type: 128:0 Non-Uniform Rational Bspline (NURBS)
    • Trim curves convert to: 126:0 Non-Uniform Rational Bspline (NURBS)
  • Solids: off
  • Reference Geometry: off
  • Maximum number of points per IGES Polyline: default
  • Chordal Deviation Tolerance: default
  • Maximum Degree of Curves and Surfaces: default

Autodesk Mechanical Desktop®

The default settings generally work very well.  However, in some cases, changing the default settings may be necessary.  Under the File menu, select the Export sub-menu and select IGES...  Select the Options button to bring up the IGESOUT Options dialog box.  Set the following options for each tab:

Geometry Tab

  • 3D Solid/Mechanical Desktop Part Mapping: Surfaces
  • Trimmed Surface Mapping: Trimmed Surface (144)
  • DeskTop Augmented Line Mapping: Copious Data 3-tuples
  • Map Point Entities: No
  • Map Ray and XLINE objects to 110:1,2 (Unbounded Line Forms): No
Annotation Tab
  • All off
IDP Mapping Tab
  • Create AutoCAD IPD's in IGES: No
Structure Tab
  • Map Layer Name: No Mapping
  • Drawing Entity (404): Map Model Only
  • View Mapping: All off
  • Map XREFS: No Mapping
  • Map Groups: Unordered (402:7)
Misc Tab
  • All off
