MSU EcoCAR Victory Lap a Success

MSU EcoCAR Victory Lap a Success

The MSU EcoCAR rolled through campus yesterday to cheers, signs, and of course cowbells, celebrating the team’s recent win at EcoCAR Year 2 Competition Finals.  After completing a lap around campus, the vehicle pulled up to MSU’s Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems with MSU president Dr. Mark Keenum and Dean of Engineering Dr. Sarah Rajala riding along.  Delivering the opening remarks, President Keenum said he was “beaming with pride” over the team’s success, and called the team the “envy of the SEC.”  He announced to a cheering crowd, “This is tantamount to Mississippi State University winning a national championship. We competed against the best of the best.”  (NEMS360.com – MSU EcoCAR team takes victory lap)

The lap itself was well-documented, with students stopping on the sidewalks to snap pictures and video of the car as it drove past.  There were numerous photographers and film crews stationed around campus to capture the event, as well as a film truck trailing the convoy to record every frame in high-definition.  TV coverage was provided by WCBI, WTVA, and WLOV.  WTVA did live interviews at both 5:00 and 6:00 pm, once with President Keenum and once with MSU Team Leader Matthew Doude.  Pictures from the event can be seen HERE.

The team is just back from EcoCAR Year 2 Competition Finals, where it placed first among 15 other top engineering schools from across North America.
