Engineers Team Up with Marketing Management Seniors

While most EcoCAR team participants are engineers looking to gain experience in the automobile industry, the EcoCAR competition offers plenty of room for non-engineers to gain valuable experience. This semester, Mississippi State EcoCAR teamed up with a senior level Marketing Management class at MSU. About a month ago, MSU team leader Matthew Doude and advisor Marshall Molen spoke to this class of about 45 students, telling them all about the competition, hybrids in general, and what MSU’s team is in the process of doing. The students’ enthusiasm was astonishing; hands raised one after another to ask questions about safety, strategy, and what they could do to help. Since that time, the students have expressed interest in participating with the team and have come up with ways in which they can contribute that are relevant to their interests and fields of study. Senior Marketing student Haley Sellers says of her experience that “I have enjoyed learning about the hybrid car and its values to today’s society. I have benefited the most by learning how to incorporate different marketing skills through preparing educational lessons in efforts to target and educate the future consumers of this product.” These students’ innovative ideas and additional man-power have been much appreciated, and it has overall been neat to see how both different groups of students have learned from each other through the process!
