Project
Wing/Pylon/Finned Store V&V for Loci/CHEM
Description:
The in-house CFD solver of Ed Luke's - Loci/CHEM - is being developed to handle relative motion. This is applicable to Ed's NASA Marshall contract (Enhancements in Support of Stage Separation) and to the long-term goal of the KEI contract to simulate an interceptor launch from a ship. The wing/pylon/finned store test provides canonical CFD-quality data for V&V (verification and validation) of relative motion via a store release trajectory at Mach 0.95 and 1.2. The dataset includes detailed pressure distribution and force and moment data during and at selected points of the store separation trajectory. The dataset was provided as a huge Word document (no one can read the magnetic tape any longer...) and it requires a significant amount of "cutting & pasting" to ExCel spreadsheets to prepare the test data for comparisons to CFD solutions. Animations of the store drop are also being accomplished. This project should provide results suitable for conference and scholarly publications.
