Develop a modeling capability that captures high fidelity physics for every representative component that affects occupant safety in a car crash.

Status
• Implemented microstructure properties based material model into PAM-CRASH, ABAQUS and LS-DYNA (Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Software).
• Developed analysis input deck for all the three FEA software and their interface.
• Compared LS-DYNA, PAM-CRASH and Experimental test results (NCAC and NHSTA).
• Brought Dodge Neon and selected various vehicular components for detail
experiment study.

Future Work
• Perform detail experiments on component and subcomponent levels to
• characterize material characteristic (damage level, residual stress, void
volume fraction etc.).
• Incorporate microstructure – property model to determine maximum
damage/failure location
• Apply multi-objective multi-level optimization techniques to improve vehicular
dynamics and performances with better occupant safety design.
