| Biography: | Dr. Horstemeyer is a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mississippi State University (MSU), where holds a Chair position for the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems in Computational Solid Mechanics. He is the thrust leader over the manufacturing and design aspects of the center. He has published over 200 journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports. He has won several technical awards (R&D 100 Award, etc.) and was recently served as a consultant on the Columbia Accident Investigation Board. Before coming to MSU, he worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 15 years. Mark worked at Sandia (Livermore, Ca) on a myriad of projects mostly focusing on weapons programs but has recently transferred the research and technologies developed at Sandia to the automotive industry. | |||||

| Research Interest: | His career comprises working on microstructure-property constitutive modeling, finite deformation inelasticity, damage evolution, fracture, nanoindention, composites, electromigration-stress voiding, fatigue, penetration, and impact; numerical modeling of nano- and microstructural mechanics; atomistic modeling; finite element analyses of manufacturing methods such as forming, forging, and other metal processing methods. |
