| Biography: | Dr. Florina M. Ciorba was born and raised in a little city of Romania, a beautiful country in the East of Europe. She received her BSc degree in Computer Science in 2001 from the Department of Electrotechnics and Informatics, of the University of Oradea, Romania. Following a student exchange program and graduation from the University of Oradea, in the Spring of 2002 she was accepted in the graduate program in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Dr. Ciorba received her doctoral degree in 2008, from National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Under the guidance of Prof. George Papakonstantinou (Head and founder of the Computing Systems Laboratory), she conducted research in parallel and distributed computing, and made contributions to the field by designing algorithms for static and dynamic scheduling and load balancing of scientific applications. | Research Interest: | Her research interests are in the field of computing and include, among others: high-performance computing, autonomic computing systems, dynamic load balancing, parallel algorithms, robust algorithms, energy-efficient algorithms, performance modeling & prediction, scheduling algorithms for emerging parallel architectures (multicore, manycore, SMPs), performance evaluation & optimization, large-scale multiscale scientific simulations. |
