Center for Advanced Vehicular SystemsCAVS

Mission

CAVS is an interdisciplinary center. It provides engineering, research, development, and technology transfer teams focused on complex problems, such as those encountered in technologies designed to improve human mobility. The development efforts provide short-term solutions relevant to regional manufacturers while the core research builds longer-term knowledge needed for sustained economic development. At the same time students gain valuable project experience that compliments their formal classroom learning.

Research

The overall effort is focused on developing superior computational, engineering, manufacturing, design, and information technologies relevant to Mississippi industries. This is accomplished by bringing to bear world-class technologist and technologies to solve complex problems. The research output provides sustainable regional competitive advantages. To be successful, CAVS maintains a portfolio of short-term and long-term projects to create a succession of increasingly more vital outputs, ranging from students with enhanced project management skills to commercialization of the intellectual products.

Research Teams

Advanced Learning Technologies

Recognizing the human as a component in product design and manufacturing, we place training as a critical part of the design and manufacturing system itself.

Automotive Electronics

The goal of the APS team is to achieve higher fuel efficiency and reduce pollution using advanced controls and renewable energy.

Challenge X

The vision of Challenge X is to provide an opportunity for students to participate in hands-on automotive research and development at the leading edge of technology using contemporary industrial practices.

Computational Manufacturing & Design

Our goal is to synergize our education and research efforts towards industry in the South with a particular focus on the automotive industry although our technology and capabilities are extensible to other application areas related to national defense laboratories, aerospace industry, and other government labs.

Cooperative Computing

The mission of CCG is to develop, deploy, and maintain cyberinfrastructure supporting engineering systems of the future.

Human Factors and Ergonomics

The Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) research team is committed to supporting the advancement of vehicle design and manufacturing through research and development of systems that focus on 1) the human component in product and process design and 2) enterprise computational systems and technologies.

Materials Processing

The Materials Processing (MP) research team is a true partnership between universities, industry, government agencies and professional and trade associations to develop cutting-edge technology for the processing of engineering materials.

Technology Transfer and Commercialization

CAVS research activities and innovative solutions are generated based upon the needs of government agencies and industry. These technologies are developed for transfer to the clients and are continuously being evaluated for commercialization.
